Hot Stuff: 4 ‘boring’ work staples re-imagined
Not much has changed or diversified when it comes to dressing for the office. But these days, there are ways to let your personality shine through. Although these pieces may be perceived as boring, there are ways to make them more exciting, whether with a pop of colour or with a unique and different cut. Here are four ways to stand out in boring work pieces.
1. The work blazer
Instead of going for the usual blazer paired over classic pants, why not try this black satin jacket with a slight sheen. It has some very fashion forward details like the frill-trimmed sleeves and frayed edges. Pair it with a white tank top, red lip and slick back hair for the ultimate (non-boring) modern office girl look.

2. Chic flats
Most of the time, I wear flats to the office. But comfort doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style. Instead of going the usual route of a ballet pump, why not opt for the ever so trendy loafer slides, which you can pretty much wear every day, especially if your office doesn’t have a formal dress code. Pair this burgundy/brown pair with jeans and a silk blouse or a sweater if you get chilly.

3. The tucked in blouse
A blouse doesn’t have to be your boring idea of a long sleeved, high neck situation. Go a different route and upgrade the idea of a tank top, into something more work appropriate with a) more expensive material and b) a sophisticated cut. This top from Ted Baker works well for work if worn under a blazer or alone and tucked into a pencil skirt or high wasted pants.

4. Simple work jewellery
I was always told to focus on a ‘statement necklace’ when at work. Usually something chunky, that stands out against a simple outfit. Today, I say no to chunky and hello to simple, delicate and sort of vintage looking jewellery. This gorgeous piece of jewellery from Pandora can be worn two ways. The customisable earrings crafted in blushing pink rose and set with shimmering stones. The best part is you can remove the outer halo to wear as studs.
