US health, beauty brand in GCC retail foray
Sami Direct, a part of the US-based multinational health science firm Sami-Sabinsa Group, announced on Wednesday its foray into the UAE and GCC retail market with the launch of the first exclusive brand store in Dubai.
The $200 million group, backed by over 200 patents, plans to open 100 outlets across the region in phases over the next 2 to 3 years to serve the exponentially growing nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals market that is likely to cross $6.1 billion by 2020, Muhammed Majeed, Sami-Sabinsa founder and group chairman, said at a press conference.
"We are confident of making a decisive impression on consumers in the UAE market. The consumers here are already exposed to the world's best-known brands and will appreciate the quality of our beauty and wellness products that are based on natural herbal extracts," said Majeed.
"We offer carefully selected quality health and beauty care products backed by real science and contain natural bioactive ingredients without any artificial additives or harmful chemicals. From dietary health supplements and skin care products to bath and body products, we believe our consumers deserve only the best," he said.
The UAE foray marks the next step in the company's strategy to become a more competitive global business by making a retail presence with its first brand store in the city. Apart from Dubai, the company has a presence in India, Bangladesh and Malaysia. It plans to expand into other GCC countries over the next 1 year with more brand stores, he said.
Majeed, who has pioneered many of the industry's most popular and botanical products that have contributed to the success of many manufacturers and retailers, said the group has an advantage over other health science companies and is a pioneer in introducing the curative properties of Ayurveda.
At its manufacturing facilities in the US, Japan and India, Sami Sabinsa Group develops, manufactures and markets phytonutrients, standardised herbal extracts, specialty fine chemicals and organic intermediates used in the nutritional, cosmeceuticals and health food supplements.
The launch of retail operations in the GCC will be handled by Sami Direct, which manages an extensive range of wellness and beauty products. The beauty products will be marketed under the flagship of Johara Cosmetics, a premium beauty brand of Sami Direct. The new brand store will provide better access to consumers and will embrace an agile operating model focused on brand relevance.
Sami Direct's nutraceutical products include general wellness, bone health, women health, weight management and detox supplements and cosmeceuticals include natural beauty care products.
All the products offered by the group are 100 per cent natural and certified by Halal. A large number of them have the added attraction of being backed by US and international patents, proving that the products are based on solid scientific knowledge.
